The Lakeside Luffer News Letter
It’s now 2010 the National have been run and won, with Victoria showing its still one of the strongest sailing states and that Albert Park is growing from strength to strength .The National Championships in Adelaide saw some great results for Albert Park skippers, proving that we are one of the strongest clubs in Australia and a force to be challenged.
The 10Rater Class saw Andrew Reid first, Lincoln McDowall 2nd, Patrick Parisienne 11th and David Thomas 13th within a fleet of 17 boats. This was one of the strongest 10R fleets in many years of National events and showed that sailors and the new designed 10’s from Albert Park where setting the standard.
The Marblehead Class saw Lincoln McDowall 1st, Patrick Parisienne 10th, Andrew Reid 11th and David Thomas 12th within a fleet of 28 boats. Again with the help of Lincoln and his newly designed M, members had a strong showing.
In the IOM Class, we also had great results with Andrew Reid 8th, Craig Manning 35th, Chris Ryan 41st,,Ralph White 46th , Campbell Calderwood 51st and Leigh Peterson 54th, within a fleet of 58 boats.
Congratulations to all who participated, as it was a great experience for us all, with many new clever ideas on rigs and sail ratios, shapes and materials used, which will be evaluated and implemented into our local fleets over this coming year, for the betterment of all classes
We also have some encouraging news : We were advised by Parks Victoria in December 2009, that they were intending to cut the weed at Albert Park by the end of January 2010. Your President Andrew Reid was advised that the job had been done, so Andrew and myself went to the Power House location today and although the weather was a little inclement, I had a test sail for approx. 30 minutes and did not encounter weed to impede my Marble, so we will again trial the venue early next week and advise you all of our intentions to return to the venue after consultation with Parks and the Power House administrations

2010 Victorian State Marblehead Championship Result
Although the event was not strongly supported in numbers the quality was certainly there, with eight boats gracing the starter first thing Saturday 12th June 2010 under the control of PRO Chris Ryan, in very light conditions with the breeze from the north west gusting at times to 3 knots.
By lunch on day one, it was obvious that five boats would be contesting the top three places, with the remaining three upsetting the top five on occasions with good results. At the end of day one, 20 races had been completed with Lincoln McDowall one point ahead of John Cole-Cook (Tas) followed by Rob O’Brien who was two points ahead of David Thomas with Andrew Reid a further 16 points behind, followed by Leigh Peterson, Robert Nowak and John Toner.
Day two Sunday 13th June 2010 saw little to no breeze so racing was delayed until conditions improved with very light zephyr’s from the west getting racing underway and by lunch on day two John Cole-Cook had taken over the lead.
After the lunch break the breeze fluctuated between the west and south west with two courses set by the PRO to vary without loosing time resetting courses which allowed a further 9 races to be completed by the scheduled finishing time was called by Chris. The afternoon racing was very tight amongst the top five with each placing well and providing a very close overall result after 31 races with 4 drops.
A special thank you is extended to PRO Chris Ryan, Brian Long, John Sterland, Benson Or and Zandra Thomas for Scoring.
